Your home works hard to maintain a comfortable temperature. And, of course, installing new windows and doors with Bay City Windows is a great way to help your home stay cozy. In a sense, installing new windows and doors is like wrapping your home in a new blanket!

But if your attic is not properly sealed and insulated, your home is probably still working too hard, and it is probably driving up your heating and cooling costs – and, reducing some of the thermal benefit of the new windows and doors.

A few points to consider:

• Heating and cooling account for 50-70% of the energy used in an average home.
• The US Environmental Protection Agency estimates that homeowners can typically save up to 25% of their heating and cooling costs by properly air sealing their homes and adding attic insulation to levels recommended by the US Department of Energy.
• Heat loss through attics is 3 to 5 times greater due to warm air leaks that pass through inadequate or improperly installed insulation.
• 80 million homes in the United States are under-insulated, with the majority of energy loss in those homes coming through the attic.

Insulation: Who Does It? Who Do I Call? Can It Do It Myself?

Because most insulation work is done by the builder at the time of a home’s construction, most homeowners rarely think about their insulation. Do I have enough? Was it installed properly? Is it still effective? Who do I turn to for answers?!?!

Because most insulation providers work only within the construction industries and do not work directly with the public, most homeowners think that fixing, improving or replacing their insulation is a sweaty, messy, scratchy, sometimes dangerous, “Do It Yourself”-type of project – which begins with expensive and frustrating trips to a “Big Box Store”.

Insulation: How?

A basic inspection will tell if your current insulation meets the “R- values”, or resistance levels, recommended by the Department of Energy for your geographic location. All of our Bay City Windows estimators are fully trained and qualified to evaluate your insulation.

In most cases, the work can be performed within 5-10 days of signing up. Typically, the job is completed in less than one day – although, of course, every home and attic can be different.

Our goal is to leave your home without any trace that an installation crew has been there. We wear protective boot coverings in your home at all times, park our trucks on the street and cover any equipment that might enter your home. Our workers wear ID badges and display the company logo – so you can feel secure with whom you invite in to your home.

No deposit is required. You only pay when Bay City Windows receives your Certificate of Installation – after everything is done.
